Members of St Basil’s believe that one of the biggest gift we could give to our children is bringing them up in faith of our lord Jesus Christ. We believe Sunday School is one of the key vehicles to achieve this and also to pass on our traditions, culture and goodwill. So St. Basil’s Church has started an active and ambitious Sunday school program.
The Sunday School program teaches our children and youth the Orthodox faith through teachings of the Bible, as well as materials obtained from the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Sunday School Association of North America. Our students and their families are encouraged to arrive to Divine Liturgy every Sunday promptly to worship and pray together as a family. Children are encouraged to sit together with their teachers in the front left side of the church. Sunday School classes begin after Holy Communion, and are approximately 30-45 minutes long. Students then join their parents during coffee hour after their class has concluded.
In coordination with our Archdiocese we believe mission of our Sunday School program is to:
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
We plan to achieve this mission by
